Demand for natural gas in Spain set a new all-time record yesterday, 12 December, of 1,716 GWh. This was 3% higher than last winter's consumption record of 1,662 GWh set on 30 January, 2007.
Meanwhile yesterday's record marks an increase of 2.3% on the most recent record set last 29 November when demand for natural gas peaked at 1,677 GWh.
Of total demand for natural gas, 675 GWh went to the electricity market, also marking an all-time record in terms of demand for electricity generation purposes.
Yesterday's peak reflected low temperatures in combination with significant demand for gas to generate electricity.
