Enagás to invest over €400Mn in a new gas pipeline to run between Galicia and Madrid

Today in Santiago de Compostela, Galician regional government head, Emilio Pérez Touriño, met with the Chairman of Enagás, Antonio Llardén.

During the meeting, Antonio Llardén recalled that Enagás’ gas infrastructure in Galicia extended to over 370km of high-pressure pipelines.

Enagás’ Chairman highlighted the importance of the upcoming Guitiriz–Lugo–Ponferrada–Zamora–Algete gas pipeline, which will be over 550km long - 96km of which will run through Galicia - connecting Galicia with Madrid (Algete). This pipeline is vital to ensuring supply continuity in Galicia and to enhancing the flexibility of the overall Spanish gas system.

This pipeline, proposed by Enagás, in its capacity as technical manager of the Spanish gas system, to the Ministry for Industry, Tourism and Commerce for inclusion in the mandatory electricity and gas network planning for 2007–2016, will entail investment of more than €400Mn, over €70Mn of which corresponds to the section running through Galicia.

The meeting between the Chairman of Enagás and the President of the Xunta de Galicia is part of a series of visits planned by Antonio Llardén to the Spanish regions in which Enagás has or plans to develop significant infrastructure projects.
