  • At the 20th Spain-Italy Dialogue Forum, the Chairman of Enagás stressed the importance of integrated energy planning in Europe

The Chairman of Enagás, Antonio Llardén, stressed the fundamental role of hydrogen and its infrastructures in enabling the decarbonisation of industry in Europe. “The planning of the European hydrogen network is primarily aimed at the industrial world, which for the most part cannot be electrified. Without hydrogen infrastructures, industry will not be able to decarbonise”, he stated at the 20th Spain-Italy Dialogue Forum, organised by Foment del Treball in Barcelona on 3 and 4 December.

Llardén stressed that with hydrogen “for the first time” Europe is planning on a Europe-wide and interconnected basis, rather than “country by country”, as has been the case until now. This greater European integration in the field of energy came about, he recalled, in the wake of the war in Ukraine, with the approval of REPowerEU.

The Chairman of Enagás defended the importance of integrated energy planning during his speech at the round table “Accompanying the transition: The future of the Green Deal”, in which he participated together with the CEO of Endesa, José Bogás, the CEO and Chairman of PwC Italy, Andrea Toselli, the CEO and General Manager of the FS Italiane Group, Stefano Donnarumma, the Director of Italy at Enel, Nicola Lanzetta, and the Managing Director of International Projects of Renfe, Inmaculada Gutiérrez.

Antonio Llardén highlighted the close cooperation between Spain and Italy in the energy sector and the joint work of Enagás and Snam on projects such as the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), a strategic infrastructure for the European Union, especially after the war in Ukraine, as it supplies gas from Azerbaijan to Europe.
