  • Fernando Impuesto, Business Development General Manager at Enagás, and Mary Paz Adán, Logistics-Commercial Manager, took part in the 1st Renewable Ammonia Conference

Fernando Impuesto, Business Development General Manager at Enagás, remarked that “renewable ammonia will not only be key in the fertiliser industry, but also as a maritime fuel and as a complementary vector to hydrogen”. He stated this during his speech at the 1st Renewable Ammonia Conference, organised by the Spanish Association for Renewable Ammonia (AEAR), held in Madrid on 22 October.

In his speech, “Development and logistics of green ammonia as a final product”, Fernando Impuesto underlined the need to develop the right logistics to respond to the growing interest in renewable ammonia production projects throughout the Iberian Peninsula.

In this regard, he stressed that Enagás is working on adaptating its LNG terminals into multimolecule plants and highlighted the importance of having infrastructures capable of storing and transmitting different molecules, such as green hydrogen, CO2 and renewable ammonia itself. This is the case of the first onshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Germany, located in Stade and fit for renewable ammonia. Enagás has a stake in this facility as a member of the Hanseatic Energy Hub (HEH) consortium.

That same day, Mary Paz Adán, Logistics-Commercial Manager at Enagás, moderated the round table discussion “Ammonia as a fuel to decarbonise maritime transport and the role of ports” with the participation of Javier Vila, Head of Environment at the Port of Barcelona; Jaime Manuel Beltrán, Head of the Business Development Area of the Port of Huelva; Jesús Casas, Director of the Port Authority of Ferrol; Genoveva Climent, Commercial and Business Development general Manager of the Port of Tarragona; and Fermín Rol, Head of the Strategic Projects and Innovation Area of the Port Authority of Cartagena.
